Thanks for a good race everyone, and congrats to Jon for winning the race. For the most part, we stayed cool and dealt with the lack of grip on the track.
What can we do to improve the next race? I know it was a tricky track, but there were still a few mistakes of the fundamentals of plate track racing. The issues I personally saw were the lack of awareness, and the presence of blocking throughout the race. Also, there were times where there was a lot of aggression early in the race from drivers going to the front of the pack. Just remember -- you don't need to lead a bunch of laps to win a race. If you stay in line and stay alert, you'll finish consistently and contend for the win.
There was a reoccurring issue with the pace car tonight where we'd have to stop completely on the track. I just want to remind all the drivers how important it is to stay alert while we're slowing to take the caution. I think we were OK for the most part, but I saw a few cars that had to take evasive action while slowing down.
Again, blocking isn't really safe in plate track racing. Riki is a difficult track, but it doesn't justify any driver cutting across the track to slow another car. It's just something to work on for the future. 8) I don't think it was a big deal tonight, but there were a few close calls -- again, just something to keep in mind. ;)
What can we do, as a group of drivers in general, to make the racing better and see less cautions? Again, the track really played a big part, but some incidents could have been avoided, I believe.
I'm really looking forward to Talladega next Friday, and I know we'll have a great show. Thanks for coming out tonight!
